A Bit Unconventinal Dec 13, 2011
By Ross Ragan
"Ross"
I purchased this watch for my son as an Xmas gift. He wanted a different brand but when I read reviews on the one he was interested in, it didn't fare very well so I bought this Citizen chronograph watch instead. Before wrapping it, I took the time to set it up so that I could verify it was functional. The way this watch displays information is a bit unconventional. It displays the year as "number of years since last leap year" so 2011 is indicated as a "3" year and the chronograph shows elapse time to 1/20th of a second instead of 1/100th of a second (I can't even think of an actual application that would require timing to 1/20th of a second), and you have to stop the timer to read to that fine level; sorry no splits or lap times if you are a runner. Setting it up was quite a challenge, even when reading the instruction manual while doing so. After the fact, I found that Citizen's website offers "interactive" instructions which really take the guess work out of the task (though I can't imagine those interactive instructions will be long lived on their site). Also, I wear hearing aids because of some high frequency hearing loss but even with my ears "plugged in" I could barely hear the alarm. My son will love it though (at least for awhile) because 1)the Citizen reputation, 2)it looks really great, 3)it is quite accurate, and 4)he won't have to worry about having to replace a battery.

Great Watch Jun 25, 2011
By Robert S My wife bought me a watch for Father's Day. Not this one. The one she bought was way to expensive and I told her she was crazy and made her take me to exchange it. I love that lady. Anyways, found this watch at the store she went to and I have to say, it looks great! Good contrast in the dial and the blue second hand and line around the crown are a nice touch and help set it apart from every other watch. I don't usually like the styling of Citizen watches but this one really does look good. I like a darker watch and of the three they had, this one definitely looked the best.
Build quality is solid. Feels well put together and has decent heft to it but I wouldn't say it is too heavy which I was worried about. I usually prefer a titanium watch and had considered getting a ceramic watch but this one looked so good I looked past the stainless steel.
I really like the features built into Citizen watches: Eco-Drive so no worries about the battery. I wear it every day so I'm confident it gets enough light. Perpetual Calendar auto adjusts for odd/even months and leap years. I don't know if other watches do this but I liked how the crown clicks when you turn it. It's very easy to set and clicks from second to second or minute to minute while you set it. And if you rotate it 2 clicks quickly, the hand you are setting will continue to spin on its own until you rotate it again. And the regular features: Chronograph works well enough. There is a way to see 1/20th of a second but only after you hit stop. Only the second and function(minutes) hands move as it is running which is okay but I would have liked it better had the function hand indicated 1 second per revolution so I could see that sucker spinning all kinds of fast while it ran. Alarm is decent but I won't be relying on it to wake me up. It lets me know when it is 2 minutes til the end of my work day.
Overall I am very pleased with my new watch and recommend it to anyone.

Looks great....dial design is suboptimal Jul 28, 2011
By Amazon_Buyer The watch is great from a technological perspective. I am not going to go into details since the previous reviewer has already covered some of it. The watch looks great and has a very solid feel.
Pros: - Eco Drive is simply awesome - Setting the watch is an experience, but it is fun. You only have to do it once. - Great looks
Cons - It is a quartz, so the second hand jerks from marker to marker, not smooth like most automatics. No big deal, it is expected. - My biggest gripe: The stupid dial which lists the modes (Alarm, Time 1, Time 2, Chronometer) right on the face of the watch They should have found another method of selecting the modes, instead of putting it on the face. - The chronometer is half-ass - The subdials all work great, but they are all kind of useless - There is no day display on this perpetual calendar. Kinda dumb in my opinion.
So basically you have a beautiful watch with great technology which has useless subdials and no day display even though it is a perpetual calendar I loved it in the beginning, but quickly grew tired of the stupidity of the layout. Returned it.
beautiful!!!! May 16, 2012
By watchitagain i actually bought this watch on my honeymoon on a cruise ship. i had been looking for a black watch that would be dressy and casual. i am not a watch expert,i just know what looks good and is functional for everyday life. i originally saw this and a much cheaper fossil. not being one who usualy spends money on watches i bought the fossil. for the next two days all i could think about was the citizen. it was about twice as expensive as the fossil but as soon as i walked out of the store with the citizen on my wrist i had no doubt i made the right choice. like everybody else said, the pictures dont do this watch justice, it is a gorgeous watch, great weight to it, easily the best looking watch i have ever owned. so if you want a review from someone who isnt going to throw some technical jargon at you, then here it is.... BUY THIS WATCH
Great Looking Watch, Useless Chronometer Feb 11, 2012
By William A. Reeves Jr. I saw this watch in a store for an exorbitant price, but completely fell in love with the styling and look of the watch. I ended up buying it online for about $150 dollars cheaper than the store price. Here is the thing. This watch is one of the more beautiful watches I have ever seen. The pictures do not do it justice. It looks absolutely gorgeous on my wrist. It can be worn in dress or casual situations, and looks great either way. Now, it you are looking for a true chronometer watch, forget this one. The chronometer on this watch is a complete joke. First off, what in the hell was citizen thinking when they made the chronometer 1/20 of a second? What on earth would you ever use that for? And you can only see that 1/20 of a second when you stop the chronometer. And setting this watch up for use is no simple matter, and I work with computers every day of my life. Please make sure once you set it up that you either wear it every day, or put it some place when you aren't wearing it where it can receive an ample supply of light so it never runs completely out of power. When it does run out of power, it is a quite complicated procedure to reset this watch and get it up and running again. Don't get me wrong, it is not rocket science or anything. Still is is somewhat complicated and time consuming. Overall, I came to terms with the fact that I picked this particular watch because of its looks. And on that fact alone, I would recommend this watch.
