Very impressed with my first G-Shock Jun 02, 2011

This is my first G-Shock and I'm very impressed with it. I have traditionally like dive type watches and I've been wearing a Momentum Deep 6 for the last couple years. The Deep 6 is a great watch but because of it's large size it does weigh a bit.
I'd been looking at G-Schocks for a long time deciding which model I wanted for my first. I ended up deciding on this one, the GD100MS-1. I really like the size and weight of this watch. I have large wrists and this watch looks substantial on it. But the great thing is the weight and feel. It wears very comfortably, and I tend to forget it's there it's so light. The rubber band is par for the course comfort wise, but the pre-curved nature of the watch make it very natural feeling and keeps it in place on the top of your wrist. It has many features such as world time with four presets, alarms, stopwatch, backlight, flash alarm. I really like the face as well. It has a nice design to it, but it's not too busy. I can quickly glance at it and get the time. The orange background is a nice touch and sets it apart from the standard background. I contemplated one of the negative display GD models, but decided to go with a normal display for my first until I could actually seen a negative in person. It has the nice large day and date, as well as a second and ten second indicator. The button selectors are firm and protected so you can't accidentally change something or inadvertently activate the backlight if worn left handed like some Indiglos. Overall this is a very solid, lightweight watch with a great military inspired design.
Highly Recommended!!!!

First G-Shock for a Military Watch Enthusiast Sep 28, 2011

I have a lot of watches, and I have bought and sold dozens of watches over the last 20 years. I have owned Breitling, Rolex, Marathon, and many other brands. I am particularly fond of military style watches, and have had the fortune of owning a few military-issued models. With that being said, I am really pleased with this watch. The matte resin is really nice, very comfortable and really soaks up the light. This watch has a very aggressive and powerful look about it. I was a little concerned about its size: 48mm around is no joke. But in spite of that, it looks right at home on my medium sized wrists. I am 6' and about 210 lbs - not as scrawny as I used to be, but not NFL sized by any means. The watch looks big, commanding, but not rediculous. The display is beautiful and the auto light is an essential feature. This one lights up with a red light that looks distinctive. The numbers are nice and sharp and remind me of the readouts on my truck. Yet, this watch is surprisingly light and sits very low on the wrist, meaning I can wear it with a dress shirt if I'm not wearing my Seadweller. The world timer is great for travelling, I'll be taking this on my next trip overseas. As you can see, I'm not someone who needed to buy a budget watch, just someone who is really well pleased with this one.

Great watch. Nov 30, 2011
By Danny This is my first G shock and i got it on sale for $55. I'm very happy with it. It has a lot of features. I really like the bright orange light and the feature that makes it turn on automatically when you turn the watch 40 degrees to your face. Its made of good quality. Its pretty big but i don't mind it. Has easy access to 4 time zones that you can pick out if you travel so you can switch between them easily.

GD100MS-1 modest-sized digits nice display faint beeps would buy again Jul 26, 2011

Thanks go to Mikey J for his "orange background is just as easy to see" response to the query of Apollo Augier --- based upon that I decided to purchase this from Savvy Watch. The watch was clearly repackaged, but had no visible "use" marks itself. It is indeed just as easy to read as black-on-gray, and a nice change from traditional. The digits are smaller than I'd have liked, but it seems impossible to get a current-model G-Shock with large ones (my old GW300A-1V had huge digits by contrast). The case is light but quite thick, no doubt to account for the seven-year battery. The double-clasp band, that I'll have to see how I like over the months and years, but my initial impression is that it's more comfortable than the single-clasp ones (and perhaps will require more fumbling to put on & take off). Beeps are faint at best --- use your cellphone for sleep alarm rather than this. The three-D bar that horizontally divides display unnecessarily hides SIG/ALM/MUTE indicators down deep wells and requires a straight-down view to see them. For that matter, the bar, the text for the indicators, and that ILLUMINATOR junk across the top are all wastes of precious display space; I'd gladly trade such "fashion" for much larger digits. The twin LEDs at SW & SE positions are orange, and nicely illuminate the display (indeed, some battery life might have been purchased by use of somewhat fainter ones). The buttons are well-recessed within their housings; they require deep but not intense pressure to activate. And the only "frill" is the multi-time technology, manual or auto-sequence (two-seconds per) through four timezones, a nice feature in my job where I frequently telephone those in other countries.
All in all, I'm quite pleased with this. I'd have preferred a solar atomic G-Shock with much larger digits, but do like the orange & black "MS" styling of this. And the price point (as well as reputation) for Savvy Watch was superior to other choices with more of the features I'd wanted but at much higher price.
