Attractive and Functional - Perfect Nov 04, 2011
By J. Brown Short version: This is a very attractive, very functional, truly waterproof watch (for anything other than scuba diving), and the twenty-five year night-time illumination is bright enough that you can use the watch as a bedside clock. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.
Longer version: My primary watch is a gold Rolex Day-Date Presidential. Originally my father's, it has great sentimental value to me, and I did not wish to risk losing it or having it stolen while on a recent international vacation. I wanted an alternative to take with me, and my criteria were specific. This watch met them perfectly.
* Waterproof for swimming. This watch is water resistant to 200m. Water resistance ratings are very misleading. If a watch isn't water resistant to at least 50m, it isn't waterproof for swimming. If you want to snorkel, it better be water resistant to 100m. [...]
* Black anodized stainless steel case and bracelet. I've never been a fan of rubber watchbands, and leather isn't suitable for swimming. The plating on gold-tone watches usually wears poorly, and I'd rather wear something more genuine. This watch isn't pretending to be something it isn't, and the black band has a great, rugged look for casual wear. Many pictures of this watch make the band look lighter than it is. It's darker than pictured on the Luminox website. It's more of a charcoal grey verging on black.
* Displays day of week and day of month.
* Synthetic sapphire crystal. This is the most expensive type of crystal you'll find on a watch, and it's rare to find it in a watch this affordable. It has beautiful clarity and is almost impossible to scratch in everyday use. Sapphire is a corundum. It rates a 9 on the Mohs hardness scale. That means that very little short of a diamond or another corundum is going to scratch it. ([....])
* Understated, blue dial. In most light, the dial is darker than it seems in pictures. It's still distinctly blue, but it's a few shades later than midnight blue, rather than being roughly a cobalt blue.
* Classic, understated design. It's beefy, but not huge and overwhelming. It's simple and elegant. It looks like a watch, rather than a wrist weight. With the exception of the Luminox logo, the dial is uncluttered by extra dials, hands, and markings.
* Permanent night-time illumination. I wanted something that would glow in the dark enough that I could use it in place of a bedside clock while traveling. This watch is just absolutely unbeatable in this regard. You can even see the tick marks glowing in a dimly lit room! Because the tick marks are small, the total amount of light is very low. It's completely unobtrusive unless you're looking at it.

3rd Luminox and best yet !!! Sep 21, 2011
By Nick J. Kozura I just received my Luminox 1824 and it is a beauty. Fit and finish are great and it is the best looking of the three Luminox watches that I have. Quick service through Amazon/CountShop. I would definitely buy there again.
