| | Description | Luminox Tech: All Luminox watches must undergo additional manufacturing steps that other watches do not require. The Luminox self-powered illumination system must be installed into each and every watch. It is a costly and time consuming endeavor but it is what makes Luminox watches special. It is our raison d'être. Each watch employs tiny self-powered micro gas lights developed by the world leader in the luminous compound industry. These micro gas lights (borosilicate glass capsules) are installed into the hands, hour markers, and when necessary, bezels of our watches. Luminox watches need no external light source to "charge" the paint on the dial or hands in order to glow as do conventional luminous watches. Nor do they require the push of a button to light the dial as do watches with electroluminescence. The U.S. military has long recognized the advantages of micro gas light sources and their use is specified in procurement specification MIL-W-46374F. Our self-powered illumination-Luminox Light Technology (LLT) allows one to view time-at-a-glance, no matter what the light level, even in complete darkness. This ease of being able to read time effortlessly seems to fill a need for various military and law enforcement groups. It is why the U.S. Navy SEALs Procurement officers came to us asking us to create dive watches for them for night missions. It is also why U.S. Air Force pilots flying the F-117 NighthawkTM Stealth Jets asked the same of us. These are only two of many groups of "heroes" that truly understand and appreciate the inherent benefit of wearing a Luminox timepiece. | |

Very solid build and stylish. It looks a lot better in person than it does in the picture. The black numbers against the black face look amazing and I love the orange and purple tubes that allow you to read the watch in complete darkness without the need to charge with ambient light (the 12 o'clock tube is orange and all others are purple). Some people have complained about the tubes not being very bright or falling off but I haven't had that problem.
In daylight the tubes all appear white which really pops against the black face and numbers. The sapphire glass has a slight blue tint to it in the sun which adds an element of color to an otherwise discrete black out look. I have banged it against a few things just wearing it around town and it still has no scratches. The leather band looks and feels great. It's comfortable and doesn't soak up sweat and smell bad the way other leather bands sometimes do.
There is a chronograph version of this watch. I really have no need for a chronograph on a watch like this. If I am in need of a stopwatch then I probably wouldn't be wearing this watch anyway. Also, I like the clean look of this watch without the chronograph. I have received a few compliments from friends and co-workers. Mostly other guys that are into watches. My wife really likes it too which is a bonus. All in all I love this watch and highly recommend it.

Everything is great about the watch but the case scrach easy the band is thick and solid so as the dlb buckle

My husband bought this because it's completely black and wearable with his USMC uniform. He loves it. It looks a little big in pictures, but when on it looks like the perfect size (my husbands wrist is not huge so it does look big-ish but good).

As several reviewers have pointed out it is big. I love it. I have big wrists so a large watch looks best on me. If you are a small guy this may not be your watch. It is well made and beautiful. It looks great at night and is easy to read.
One item of note, the 1879.BO is not water resistant to 200m or 660 ft as advertised in this spec sheet, that is the rating for the smaller, approx 42mm, watch, not the larger 47mm. The 47mm is rated to 100m or 330 ft. As this watch does not have a rotating bezel and has a leather band, I did not buy it as a dive watch so the rating does not affect me, but I still take off 1 star for the false info. Look it up on the Luminox website for the proper info.
Overall very nice. Recommended.

I have more than 20 watches in my collection, all high caliber ones such as tags, omegas, and i have couple nice tissots and automatic victorinoxes but this watch is super unique comparing to them, the quality for the price is very good, 47mm is a bit large for a watch but if you have a big wrist then it shouldn't be a problem, the strap is very good too, overall this watch looks and feels like a 1k watch, i don't know anything about its movement tho, I'm sure its one of those cheap plastic movements eventho it says swiss, we all know ETA is making swiss movements for 20 dollars or less. Anyway if you are looking for a blackout watch look no further click buy,
