few compromises Aug 01, 2008
By Gregory Brady

all watches are a compromise. This watch offers very few. By any standard this watch keeps very accurate time based on atomic watch comparisons. Its light weight, attractive (not in a dressy way)and rugged. The light system associated with these evo watches has to be experienced to be appreciated - it exceeds most expectations. The only compromises I can see are that if your looking for a dress watch - this is not it (although many will wear it and feel perfectly at home in any attire). And wearing a rubber band works for some and not for others. I have ordered another luminox field watch (1828) and it will include a metal band. Shop around and you can find this product at a reasonable savings. Even at the retail price the watch is worth the asking price.

Not very impressed Jun 16, 2009
By Amazon Ron I was so excited to receive my Luminox watch after reading a number of good reviews. I truly expected the luminosity to blow me away - after all, they advertise that their micro-gas technology is 100x brighter than 'standard' glow watches. Wow is that not true.
The technology is ok (nice that it doesn't need any exposure to light for sure) but there is so little material for their micro-gas that you can barely see the dial at night. It is visible but I'll tell you, my Omega with supposed inferior technology glows far, far brighter if it's exposed to a few seconds of light. I'd say the Omega is on the order of 5-10x brighter and I expected the exact opposite.
Major disappointment, to be honest. I really was expecting something much better since luminous dials and markers is the Luminox claim to fame. Either tone down the salesmanship or use a lot more luminous material and charge a few bucks more.

Navy Seals couldn't use this watch! Are you kidding me? Apr 13, 2010

My son got this model for Christmas 2009. He is not a Navy Seal. He is a 15 yr old high school student who plays Airsoft as his most dangerous activity.
There's not a scratch on the watch, yet somehow the crappy movement failed. What happened is the seconds hand has somehow gotten a bit loose, or has bent down, so that it catches and drags on the minute hand. After two seconds of struggle, the seconds hand finally breaks free and continues around till the next encounter with the minute hand.
We only noticed it because the the thing was falling behind in time constantly, and so while watching it and thinking what could be the problem we saw the seconds hand and the minute hand interfere with each other.
If Luminox says that this watch is fit for Navy Seals but not high schoolers playing Airsoft, then you can conclude what you may about their claim.
We are going to try hard to return for a full refund. Too bad as it looks cool, and the Tritum gas illumination works reasonably as claimed.
But if it can't take a bit of knocking around, then it's a phoney. I might try and post a video of the failure mode.
Recommend you move on to another more proven brand if you really need a durable watch. If you want looks more than function, than you might get this watch to last.

Basic, tough, timely Dec 07, 2007

This watch keeps great time, looks good, works well, garners compliments, and is probably on the wrist of a Navy SEAL somewhere in active duty underwater. And it's not too expensive. Great product. Love the yellow colors. No stopwatch, but that's the only beef.

Great watch Mar 08, 2010

If you are looking for a watch that you can always read... including in pitch darkness 24 hours a day... this is the watch for you. It illuminated ALL the time regardless if there is light. The clever use of illumination gas filled cells provides constant glow. At night it sits on my night table like a beacon.
