| | Description | Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the "Big Three" watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko's quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing. | |

Classic Orient #2EV03000D Watch Mar 23, 2012
By IBCurt Just received this little beauty this morning!
This is a striking timepiece right out of the box. Fit and finish appear perfect.
It is very heavy and substantial for its size and appears to be very well made. One issue I've seen, on other watches with the date mag window, is that the magnification is inadequate. Not so with this watch! The mag window does a very good job enhancing the readability of the numbers.
This is the second Orient automatic watch I have owned and expected nothing less. Time will tell (pardon the pun) if this watch is as accurate as the previous Orient but I have every reason to believe it will be.
Alas nothing is perfect, even beautiful Orient watches. Now a few negatives about this, otherwise, wonderful watch. 1) The band! It looks great and probably will wear well but it is rolled and not solid. Come on Orient, this nice a timepiece and you crap it up with a rolled band? OK, ok, easily fixed and I new this going in. Already have a more worthy, solid link band on order and hopefully it will arrive later today or tomorrow. Problem solved but it shouldn't have been an issue to begin with. 2) This may just be a personal preference but the crown is a push down not a screw down. With that being said though, it is a larger and more size appropriate crown than I have seen for most push types. At this point I'm not going to mess with it, close enough I have to say. 3) Not so much about this Orient watch but maybe about all automatic Orients; you can not manually wind the watch. This appears to be the standard with all of the Orient movements I've seen so far. Maybe this shouldn't be a complaint so much as an observation. I have a couple of Invicta automatics that use the Citizens Miyota movement and you can manually wind them. But from what I've seen so far the Orients are more accurate. If I had to choose (and I did) I would go with the more accurate, non manually wind able movement in the Orient. 4) Last gripe; the day is not a quick set. Meaning that rather than twisting the crown at the date setting in the opposite direction to advance the day, you have to roll the watch hands past midnight to set the day! Seems like when ever I have to set a watch like this, the day window is at tomorrow and I have to do a crazy amount of crown winding to get it set. Not such a big deal after it is set, if you keep the watch running and don't do a lot of international travel that is, but something that could be fixed if Orient had a mind to.
All in all I am very pleased with this purchase and look forward to wearing this watch for a long time to come.
