Description

About Orient: Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the "Big Three" watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko's quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing.

5Substantial Watch - bezel worthless  Jan 28, 2010 By J. Moore
I just purchased this from Orient's US distributor (type in "iloveorient" at checkout for 50% off - this watch was <100). Shipped to HI in 2 days and I couldn't be happier with it. I was initially shopping for a "forever" watch like the Seiko kinetic or Eco-Drive but decided an automatic coupled with a watch winder would provide a better product for less. Weight is substantial & size is perfect. Bezel is worthless; you'll get a blister trying to spin it.

5UNBEATABLE value  Dec 11, 2008 By A.N.G.
There is one word to describe the value of this watch: WOW. I recently purchased the Orient Men's Blue and Red Bezel Automatic Dive Watch for a good friend--he was awestruck by the gift. A watch of this caliber would typically cost much more than Orient's discounted price found on Amazon.

Before making my purchase, I did lots of research on watches with comparable design and features. Although I found other automatics, they were far beyond the price-range that I could afford and did not present any more or better features than this gorgeous watch.

The thing I love most about this watch is that all of its movements were made IN-HOUSE. The craftsmanship, thoughtfulness, and skill put into this timepiece are highly evident when it is examined in-person. Any watch-lover or collector will truly appreciate this watch!

5Very good value put together in a quality fashion  May 22, 2009 By Reader Bokkie "Mike"
The watch keeps excellent time -- deserve a more prominant spot in peoples minds when they think of an automatic quality timepiece seems to be off about 4-5 seconds a day.
I have no complaints

4Best Automatic "Pepsi Bezel" Diving Watch for the Money  Oct 17, 2011 By Samuel Duran
I've had the Pepsi Mako for about 8 months now. A lot of research went into purchasing this watch. I also have a "Submariner"style Invicta automatic watch. This beats it hand down! The Orient watch has a unique look that stands apart from other replica watches. It's very handsome and fits in the same league as Tissot, Omega, and some Rolex watches. What's great is that it has an in-house movement which some of the other brand name watches don't have. The dynamic blue watch dial is stunning and looks different under different lighting. The "Pepsi" bezel is not cheesy looking like on some other diver watches in the same price range and little details like an Orient monogram on the crown is a fine luxurious touch. Even though I'm a sucker for highly polished bracelets on a watch (so much so that I own a couple of tungsten carbide watches from Oniss) the brushed steel on this watch is appropriate and very masculine. Most importantly, it's also very accurate for an automatic watch.
Though I have tons of praise for this watch there are a couple of things that you must know about it.
1. The bezel is extremely tight. (I've loosened it by turning it a few times with a terry cloth for better grip)
2. It's a bit clanky due to bearings in the rotor of the movement (it actually makes it more efficient but it can be annoying when you move your hands in a quiet space).
Overall, even though it's not a "certified" diver's watch this Pepsi Mako is a no-nonsense watch. Very handsome, guaranteed to one day be a classic, and budget friendly for a high quality watch.

3A bit heavy/too thick case/extra safety on wrist band failed  Jul 31, 2011 By Davi savy
My wrist is not very wide but I am used to big watches, nevertheless this one has a very thick case and it is heavy. Metallic band has and added safety lock that broke on the first week (a loose pin that neede to be repalce and cost me $9 at a local shop)but overall it is a good looking watch. I have used for near amonth in the water with no problem
