Description

Orient Watch was formally established in July 13th, 1950 in Tokyo. However, the history of Orient Watch really dates back to 1901, when Shogoro Yoshida, the founder of Orient, opened a wholesale watch store in Ueno, Japan. Orient Watch has always focused on mechanical watches, primarily automatic watches with its own in-house automatic movements Orient was once part of the "Big Three" watch companies in Japan along with Citizen and Seiko. In the 70s, when mechanical watch companies faced hardship from the mass introduction of inexpensive quartz watches, Citizen and Seiko took the path of mass producing quartz watches, Orient stuck with what it did best, making mechanical watches. Today, Seiko owns a controlling stake in Orient. Orient, however, continues to make its own mechanical movements. For its quartz models, it uses Seiko's quartz movements. What sets Orient apart from other watch companies is really the fact that Orient has always been focusing on making its mechanical movements better and more reliable. It is unusual today to find a watch company that makes its own movement selling watches at prices offered by Orient. Most of the watch companies that do make in-house movements are big name specialized watch companies such as Patek Philippe whose watches ranges from tens of thousands of dollars to hundreds of thousands of dollars. To find a specialized watch company that uses in-house movements selling its watches at prices that are affordable to most people is truly refreshing.

3Nice for the price, but....  Sep 20, 2010 By Gregory Young
Orient watches have a reputation for reliability and ruggedness with a touch of style. This line of automatics is no exception. It has the complications of a "slide rule" dial, turnable by the crown at 4:00, and a power reserve meter at 6:00. It is a partial skeleton--the dial face has a number of differently-shaped holes in it. With the display back, a few glimpses all the way through the watch are possible.

I think you will either be very taken by the dial, or really put off. There is no doubt that the holes seem cut at random as to both location and shape. The watch comes in a number of dial colors; mine happens to be orange. It has proven to be accurate over the course of the month I have had this watch.

My only complaint is the lack of a date wheel/window. That shortcoming keeps this watch off my wrist more than it otherwise would be.

5My new favorite  Dec 17, 2008 By P. Mclickins "J"
This watch, like so many Orient watches, has the finish and features of watches in a much higher price range. Along with the automatic movement (no more batteries), Orient offers in house movements and a power reserve indicator. For people who aren't die hard watch fans, having in house movements means everything in and on this watch is made by Orient. Nothing is out sourced like so many other brands.

I don't dive, but another feature of this watch I really like is that its resistant up to 330 feet. Sometimes I forget to take off my watch before jumping in the pool. Good to know, I don't have to worry about it anymore.

As for its weight and size, its actually right in the middle between too big and heavy and too small and a bit too light. It sits on my wrist perfectly.

Out of all the watches I own, this watch gets the most comments. At this price...I wonder why I paid so much more for my other watches.

5Nice looking, solid watch  Dec 16, 2011 By Nitrousbird
I just received this watch a couple days ago, and I am really liking it.

It feels very well built, and no imperfections in build quality that I could find. I like the band and especially the double clasp. The box it comes in is also very nice, though much larger than it needs to be.

The Power Reserve meter is a neat feature - not really necessary if the spring was visible, but a unique touch. The screw down crowns are solid with a good feel, and it is neat to be able to adjust the dial with the crown (not that I'll ever use the dial feature, but I like it being there). The watch is also very quiet; I have to have it fully against my ear to hear the ticking at all.

I think I still like the look of my Invicta 7208 (full skeleton) slightly better, but this Orient's build quality is clearly superior, and the band clasp is leaps and bounds better than the clasp on my Invicta.

Overall, this watch is a keeper.

5Great watch!  Jan 13, 2011 By Brian Lang "Brian"
Really liked this watch when I first saw it, and looks better in person. Definitely has a high quality feel. The power reserve feature is very cool and useful. Accuracy seems to be about +4 sec per day, which is great.
