| | Description | SEIKO 5 - the meaning of the "5" A great marketer had the idea in the 70ies: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the following 5 (five) attributes (thus the name SEIKO 5): 1. Automatic, 2. Water resistant, 3. Shock resistant, 4. Date, 5. Day. Please note that some SEIKO 5's are in fact SEIKO 4's, if the "Day" function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 is used. The only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of the day wheel. Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Sports often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels as opposed to the 21 Jewels in the 7S26. Please note that all these movements beat at a rate of 21'600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second). As a comparison, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28'800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21'600 bph. Why do I mention these three movements? Because they are found in probably 80% of all inexpensive automatic wrist watches. I gave this watch for Christmas. Two weeks later it was given back with the person telling me it would not keep running. I wore the watch for a few days and had the same problem. Checked about returnnig and Amazon tells me it is to late.

Bought this item on Amazon and Amazon.com is "Seller" Bought it February 25 and it quit working in 31 days after we received it!!! Item listed as "new". But no return refund after 30 days. They say they would refund partial if I still wanted to continue with return!!! Great! Very, very, angry and frustrated. Would not buy again!!!

I received this item days before the estimated delivery date. As I had posted in an earlier comment, this watch is really beautiful. Seiko did a wonderful job. However, I made the mistake of assuming the watch was a regular men's sized watch. To me, it is not. When my wife opened the box and showed me the watch, I thought a mistake was made and I was sent a ladies' watch. The mistake was purely mine as I did not check the size of the case in the item description. This watch is small. The photo is a little deceiving. Regardless, Amazon did nothing wrong as it was clearly my error. They gladly received the item back and issued a credit to my account. Once again it is a beautiful time piece. Even my wife, who is the world's most discrminate shopper said that is a beautiful watch and she really liked it.

This is my dad's favorite brand of watches. He's only used these for about thirty years!
These watches last long, they keep up with the time even without a battery.
My dad got me into them, and now I like them as well!
I also like that it's got the days in Spanish, it's very helpful!
I wish I could be more 'technical' about watches, but it's just waht you need and want!
