| | Description | SEIKO 5 - the meaning of the "5" A great marketer had the idea in the 70ies: to be a SEIKO 5, the watch has to have the following 5 (five) attributes (thus the name SEIKO 5): 1. Automatic, 2. Water resistant, 3. Shock resistant, 4. Date, 5. Day. Please note that some SEIKO 5's are in fact SEIKO 4's, if the "Day" function is omitted, then the Caliber 7S25 is used. The only difference to the normally found 7S26 is the omission of the day wheel. Also re-issues of SEIKO 5 Sports often use the 7S36 caliber. Again the 7S36 is similar to the most popular 7S26, yet it features 23 Jewels as opposed to the 21 Jewels in the 7S26. Please note that all these movements beat at a rate of 21'600 bph (beats per hour) or 6 bps (beats per second). As a comparison, an ETA 2824-2 beats at 28'800 bph or 8 bps. A Miyota 82xx beats at 21'600 bph. Why do I mention these three movements? Because they are found in probably 80% of all inexpensive automatic wrist watches. A market share that is huge, yet challenged these days (2006) by an increasing share of inexpensive China Made automatic movements An automatic watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch, typically with a balance wheel escapement, whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer's arm, instead of having to be wound manually every day. Whereas a quartz watch is powered by electricity, a mechanical watch is powered by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time. | |

Works Awesome!! Jun 16, 2010
By J. Mattson Bought this watch for my grandfather who insisted on having a windup! He's really active still so this watch was perfect since his movement alone keeps the watch up to snuff without ever having to wind it! Looks even better than I had imagined...the picture doesn't do the quality of the watch any justice! Thanks again!! Really prompt shipping as well!!

Good inexpensive automatic watch.. Aug 31, 2011
By Jacoby Y. Wilson For the price, a real solid bargain. Mine loses time if not worn for a couple of days, but would expect that on any automatic, self-wind watch. This has become my regular wristwatch.

Good Automatic Watch Aug 06, 2011
By d wayne The Amazon photo does not do this watch justice. This is a very good looking watch.
I've never been very gentle with my watches, I put a watch on, and it stays on my wrist until it breaks or needs a new battery. In the case of this watch, I figure that a watch that is rated as safe to 90 feet, should be able to stand up to a shower in Phoenix.
The watch only lost about a minute and a half a month, which is fine by me, I'm not using it to time track and field.
I ordered this watch about two months ago, and received it within ten days from a company named MR Watch. The watch came without owners manual and warranty forms. When I contacted Mr Watch I was directed to Seiko's website for info on the watch, but they didn't address the warranty issue.
Because I didn't have an owners manual, I was on my own trying to remove links from the band. This watch band IS NOT the same band you will find on most other Seiko watches. Because I needed to remove 2-3 links, I figured it would be ok to experiment. I ended up using needle noses and a flat head to remove two links. Looks fine.
I am very happy with this watch. Pissed about Mr Watch not supplying the documentation.

A very good watch Feb 21, 2011
By casio It is a very discreet watch but it does its job very well, is very accurate for this class (mine was losing about 2-3 minutes per month) For short, get very much for this money.
