| | Description | About Seiko: In 1877, at the age of 18, Kintaro Hattori set up business repairing the Western-style clocks that were becoming increasingly popular in Japan. By 1892, Hattori was manufacturing his own clocks in a factory he called Seikosha, from the words "seiko" meaning "exquisite," "success," or "miniature," and "sha" meaning "house." The company grew and prospered, producing its first wristwatch in 1913 and launching the Seiko brand in 1924. Technological innovation has always been a driving force in the company's history. Key milestones include Seiko's introduction of the world's first quartz watch in 1969, and its successful launch, in 1988, of the Kinetic, the world's first battery-free watch with quartz accuracy. Recognized for its technological excellence, Seiko has provided timekeeping services for the Olympic Games and the World Cup Soccer Championships. Today, the Seiko brand continues to stand for state-of-the-art technology, as well as superior quality and refined design. | |

Seiko chronograph Sep 16, 2011
By bert Exactly as advertised and shown. An attractive, accurate stopwatch at an excellent price. Just one negative (although a relatively important one). The combination of the "cut out" hour and minute hands with the vertical alignment of the stop watch hands and the word "Seiko" at 3 o'clock makes it hard to tell which are the hour and minute hands (and tell the time) unless you're in good light. I've solved this problem, to some extent, by having the stopwatch running so the hands aren't vertically aligned.

Hand color and markings are gold, not black Jan 04, 2012
By BillW I bought this, and although it seems to be a great watch, I have some vision problems and will likely return it. The photos on the Amazon ad make it look like the watch has black hands and markings, when in fact they're a highly reflective, light colored gold. In bright light, this is fine, but in low or even medium light, it's often very difficult, at least for me, to read the time or any of the other markers. It's too bad because the watch is impressive.
UPDATE: A few days later!
I've decided to keep the watch anyway. Yes, it's hard to see in some lighting conditions, and the photo Amazon supplied IS bad, but the watch is too, too, impressive not to keep. I love this watch! I use the chronograph function to time the amount of time I work on things and it's great ... at least in good light.
My vision problems are, I suspect, trivial compared to some people. If the hands appeared as they did in the Amazon photo, it might have been more functional from a vision standpoint, but I'm not that sure the watch would look as good as it does.
My advice: If you're considering buying a watch on Amazon, or for that matter anywhere else on the web, get the model number (for this watch it's SNDC45) and do a search for photos to see what you're getting. For example, do a google on "SNDC45 photo" for this watch and you'll likely end up with the photos posted here as well as elsewhere, and some of the other photos have better color as well as different angles.
I not only like this watch, after using it for a few days I love it ... and it's a Seiko to boot! My last Seiko lasted 20 years and cost over 4 times as much as I paid for this. The watch site watchuseek.com (THE web site for watches) has nothing but praise for Seiko's.
I guess I'm a happy camper after all!!
UPDATE 2/9/12 Amazon changed the photo so the color of the hands is now gold, not black.

Beautiful, but difficult to read Nov 25, 2011

This is my favorite watch because of its good looks. When using the timing functions, I find it a bit difficult to read the dials -- they're small, of course, but the face is very busy and reflects any bright lights. Buy it for the looks and the value, but get a stop watch if you are serious about timing events.

By Jack Nan I ordered the item from overseas and it was shipped to a friend. As I received the watch this week, I was happy with the conditions.
