Description

The Timex Men's Ironman Solar Power 50-Lap Watch #T5J281 is a must-have for serious athletes who appreciate style as much as they value high performance. The sturdy dark gray resin and woven canvas strap complements a black metal bezel. The light gray dial features bold, easy-to-read digital numbers, which show time, day, and calendar. The watch's most unique feature is its rechargeable energy source that uses natural and artificial light, so no battery change required. Among the laundry list of Ironman-worthy functions are: 100-hour chronograph with lap or split option in large digits, 50-lap memory recall, power conservation feature with Sleep Mode, 99-lap counter and a 24-hour countdown timer. The watch, which features Indiglo night light, is water resistant to 330 feet and comes with a one-year manufacturer's warranty.

5Solar watch  Jun 08, 2010
Great watch, and you never have to worry about the battery. No problems to date with the watch. Does an excellent job with lap times. When checking laps, the watch shows the latest lap time for about 10 seconds so you aren't rushed trying to check the time of each lap. I would recommend this watch to anyone.

2Great watch BUT....  Apr 27, 2010
I bought this watch for my husband in October '09 and he loved it, the size, color, ease of use, comfort, however, it is now April '10 and the watch no longer keeps time properly. After resetting it, not before long (hours later) the watch is incorrect. Not just the time, but the date and year as well. Not sure what the problem is, as it doesn't run on batteries and is charged by solar? Sad and disappointed that this watch is a dud.

1Totally unreliable  Sep 22, 2009
Bought two of these, didn't like the color on the gray one I got at a store too much, so gave it to my kid and bought the one with the black band at Amazon. Both died. One stopped working after one month, the other after about 4 months of normal use. Same problem, indiglo stops working, then watch freezes or goes dead. After a while comes back to life but works erratically. After my first breakdwon I went online and saw a lot of reviews from folks who had the same happen to them. I think Timex hasn't quite gotten the solar thing right. Buyer beware.

2Frustrated  Apr 20, 2009
I work in EMS and health care. I have owned a Timex Ironman since 1993, when I purchased my first one during Army Basic at Fort Benning, Georgia and always thought they were great watches. Most of the time the wrist strap gave out after 3 or 4 years and I would buy a new one because I could not readily obtain a new, Timex band. I use the watch to swim and run, and purchased the solar watch because it was functional and the wrist band was sturdy; and no battery. I purchased it in August 2008 and it gave out this week (April 19, 2009): hit one button, the screen blanked and reset. Hit another and the clock stopped. I thought it might have been water damage so I let it dry out; although the casing appeared intact and no moisture appeared in the crystal. Then the solar cell discharged to empty. The watch continues to reset and I am very frustrated. For my work, the watch was perfect in almost every way. But if it gives out after six months I am not going to buy another if the pattern repeats.

5Simple watch, performs as promised  Aug 04, 2008
I like this watch a lot. The face is easy to read, and the buttons are well placed and easy to operate. The back-light activates fine and gives enough visibility to see the time on the face. The watch also looks sporty and stylish. The watchband was a little firm at first but now it's easy for me to undo the band or re-clasp the band when putting the watch on.
